Under 16 Hurling championship Final
We traveled to mayfield on Sunday evening 15th September to take on the Brian Dillon’s / Delany’s combination in the Div 3 championship final on what turned out to be a glorious afternoon for hurling. Having got off to the perfect start when the first long distance ball struck in by Joey ended up in the back of the net, but it was a cagey first half after that to half time with both teams trading Points the pick of them coming from Callum who doubled on the sliothair mid air.
We headed into half time not playing our best hurling but held a 1-06 to 0-5 lead , with the coaches having a few encouraging words at the break the lads stepped up a gear and eventually got into their stride and were rewarded with 3 second half goals the best of them a superb flick by Shane and from here on we kept the scoreboard ticking over with Daniel making a big impact from the bench too scoring 1-2 from play
Our half back line and midfield were now in control with Max and Djvency being consistent throughout, we eventually wore down a gallant Brian Dillon’s/Delany’s team who never gave up and converted a late penalty but it was the Crosshaven lads who ran out deserving winners at the end
4-13 to 1-08
Following the game the East region u16 hurling trophy was presented to Crosshaven captain Joey Middleton on behalf of the team Crosshaven will now play the winners of Killmeen/western gaels in the county semi final .
